White Lotus season 3 episode 6: Denials

The dark cloud above many characters in the last episode left us thinking that anything is possible. So when Timothy shoots himself in the head traumatizing his wife and daughter, we believe it. It was only in Timothy’s head though. As he lays his head on the pillow, Victoria tells him they will bring Piper back to her common senses. Timothy wishes his daughter’s beliefs were his main concern.

As the sun rises Kate sees Valentin sneaking out of Jaclyn’s room. Wait a minute? Wasn’t she saying that Laurie should have slept with him hours ago? Later at breakfast, Kate tells Laurie she saw Valentin leaving their friend’s room with the same clothes from the night before.

Kate thought she was doing some small gossip and that Laurie would not care much. Apparently, Laurie cares and cares a lot. She begins by saying how Jaclyn hasn’t changed a bit, that she is an aging actress surviving off male attention. When Valentin comes to the table, Laurie barely speaks with him. Back in her room, Jaclyn wakes up with a needy call from her husband saying he misses her and it’s so horny for her.

At the boat, Saxon wakes up naked next to his younger brother Lochlan. The hangover hits him like a truck, with flashes of the night before still somewhat blurry in his mind. He remembers having sex with Chloe and watching his brother have sex with Chloe while he lay next to them. So many weird things happened he doesn’t know how to begin to process. With a cup of coffee and some fresh air, Saxon starts to remember clearly what happened. Lochlan… well there is no other way around it. Lochlan was jerking him off while having sex with Chloe. The realization gets Saxon beyond disgusted, he gets up to puke while Lochlan – still unaware of what happened, asks if he is okay.

Following the first glimpse of the morning from other guests, Belinda is caught tangled in the sheets with Pornchai as Zyon arrives at her room.

For Gaitok, the morning is as bad as the night before. His superior wants to take him to practice shooting with the gun that he still hasn’t gotten back. He needs to act up fast.

At the boat, Chloe receives an angry call from Gary. He suspects that she slept with one of the brothers and she fears he will dump her. Chelsea tries to cheer her up and tells her that there are better options out there, but Chloe says the arrangement she is now is perfectly comfortable. Chelsea finally gets a hold of Rick, begging him to come back. She warns him that bad things come in three but still, he is only coming back on the next day.

As soon as the brothers go back to the villa Victoria tells them that Piper lied to all of them about her thesis and that actually she wants to sign in at the meditation center. Saxon thinks she lost her mind while Lochlan backs his sister up saying it’s not a bad idea. He even tags along to the visit to the monastery.

At the top of the hill, Gary is convinced Chloe slept with one of the brothers. Gary tells Chloe that he needs her help with something, so she should invite the guy she fucked along with some other people.

Pornchai and Belinda have no awkwardness after their night together. Pornchai tells Belinda he wants to help Belinda open her spa. He tells her that opening a business in Thailand is easier and that they should discuss it in more detail later.

In Bangkok, Rick meets Sritala at a restaurant just to waste her time. He tells her that the Hollywood director really likes her and wants to observe her at her house, her habitat. She must miss the acting a lot because she agrees without much hesitation. She warns Rick that her husband is at home and not well. Rick assures her they won’t bother him.

At the monastery, Piper meets Luang Por Teera and asks him to speak with her parents. Victoria is interviewing people around the monastery asking everyone around if it is safe to live there. Timothy goes to the interview solo and is humbled by the knowledge and expertise of the monk. Luang Por Teera talks about “spiritual malaise”. He tells Tim that people experience it when chasing money and pleasure. Luang says people cannot outrun the pain, which touches Timothy in delicate areas in his life. Timothy asks Luang his latest interest: What happens after we die? Luang says “Death is a happy return, like coming home.” He compares people to droplets of water that splash from the waves and return to the ocean. Timothy lets the tranquility of Luang’s words sink with him. It would be nice to just come home, wouldn’t it?

He tells Victoria he approves of Luang and the monastery which infuriates Victoria. She tells Piper that she must spend a night there before fully committing. Piper gladly accepts and Lachlan stays with her too, a nice surprise to Piper.

At the villa, Gaitok is at the Ratliff’s gate. He must recover the gun before his training with his superior. Mook interrupts him – just for a few minutes, and when he sees Saxon leaving Gaitok sneaks inside. He goes through every object in every room, and when he thinks there is no more hope, he checks a piece of furniture made with dozens of drawers. Gaitok opens one drawer and finds the gun – rapidly gets out when he hears some of the Raftliff coming back.

At the pool, Chelsea tells Saxon he looks freaked out. He tries to move his thoughts away from the bizarre night between him and his brother asking Chelsea why she didn’t hook up with him. Besides the basic common sense that she has a boyfriend, she tells Saxon Rick is her soulmate and now that she has that, she cannot go back to cheap sex. To add a little more salt to the wound, Chelsea calls him soulless and tells him sex with him would be meaningless.

Later when Chloe joins them, she tells Saxon that Gary knows about them and that he is not mad – he even got invited to the party tonight. Chelsea thinks that Gary wants a threesome. Saxon says he has done a threesome before but never with a guy. Chloe asks “What about last night?”, and Saxon only refers to the kiss between him and his brother, saying the girls had forced them to. “I didn’t force him to jerk you off”. Chelsea looks astonished and now that Saxon knows for sure it happened he tries to blame it on the drug, and Chelsea gives him the perfect answer:  “There isn’t a drug in the world that would make me get with my brother”.

Laurie cannot enjoy the sun, she has to say something to Jaclyn. Kate tries to convince her not to, but the whispers catch Jaclyn’s attention and Laurie tells her that she and Kate know that Valentin spent the day. Jaclyn says that nothing happened. Laurie asks if her relationship with Harrison is open, and when Jaclyn denies it Laurie tells her not to worry and uses the same phrase on her – What happens in Thailand stays in Thailand. Jaclyn keeps her character saying she has no idea what Laurie is getting mad at, and Laurie loses a little bit. She finds it hilarious that people don’t change, that they are all still the same as they were in tenth grade. The mood between the three of them gets worse. Jaclyn tells Kate how disappointing it is to hear her friends gossip about her in addition to what she already deals with at work. Is it really gossip if it is true?

When Gaitok goes back to the gate, his superior is looking around thinking the gun was stolen. It was, but he doesn’t need to know that so Gatiok tells him it was with him this whole time.
Victoria is still annoyed about Piper’s decision to enroll in the meditation center. Timothy tells her that it is a good experience for their kids to learn to be tough. Victoria completely disagrees – she thinks her kids should fear poverty like everyone they know. What if they lost everything? Timothy tries to match Piper’s beliefs to a not-so-far-away reality they all will face. Victoria is quick with her answer: She would just not want to live. She doesn’t have the will to live a life without luxury and comfort. Nothing Timothy says will change her mind, and he looks lost.
At the temple, Lochlan starts to remember what happened the night before while Luang leads a meditation. He looks just as horrified as his brother and tries to blink it all away.
In Bangkok, Frank agrees to pass as the Hollywood director as he and Rick meet Sritala in her home. Rick is speechless for a second as he sees Jim. Will Rick keep his promise to Chelsea, and do nothing but look into his eyes?
