Honey Don’t trailer: Margaret Qualley reunites with director Ethan Coen

Margaret Qualley is back on screen in Ethan Coen and Tricia Cooke’s newest feature, Honey Don’t! In this dark comedy, Qualley plays Honey O’Donahue, a small-town private investigator in Bakersfield, Calif., following a series of odd murders that appear to be linked to a sketchy church.

Chris Evans stars as Reverend Drew, the leader of the church Honey is investigating. Aubrey Plaza plays MJ, a police officer and mysterious woman who may be Honey’s love interest. “I love those click-clacking heels,” MJ tells Honey in the trailer. The film also features Charlie Day, Billy Eichner and Lena Hall.

Set to premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in May, the movie will arrive in theatres in August 2025.

Honey Don’t! is the second movie in a lesbian-themed, loosely connected trilogy directed by Coen and Cooke. Drive-Away Dolls, the first in the trilogy, was released in February 2024. In an interview with Collider, Coen said: “Not really a trilogy, but the idea was to write three queer B movies that I always thought would just kind of sit in the drawer and our kids would look at one day when they were old and get some laughs. And now we’ve made one of them.”

The third movie, titled Go Beavers, does not yet have a release date.

Qualley said she loved working with Coen and Cooke for a second time. In an interview with IndieWire, she said: “I can hardly put into words how special making that movie was for me—and working with Aubrey Plaza, who is one of my favourite actors and people of all time.”
